South African colour, painted in England.

Donna White is a South African-born fine artist. She graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art from the University of Natal in 1976 and built her early reputation in South Africa as a photorealist. She showed in Art South Africa Today, curated by the critic Clement Greenberg, and had a retrospective of her photorealism at the Pretoria Art Museum.

The strong sun, big skies and warm earth colours of Southern Africa never left her work. After moving to England, her painting became more abstract, but the African light is still there in the saturated colour, the confident marks and the layered texture of each canvas.

Today she paints at her studio in Maidenhead, Berkshire. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and over 500 of her paintings hang in collections from Mozambique to Zurich, Vancouver to Hamburg.
